The world’s largest electric car manufacturer, Tesla, has almost made up its mind to set up a car manufacturing plant in India. According to official sources, the EV giant is likely to establish their manufacturing unit in Gujarat’s Sanand.
Moreover, according to sources, the industries and mines department of Gujarat has begun the preparations for the land allotment for the said plant.
Gujarat’s Kandla and Mundra ports were in talks for the location of the plant earlier.
Tesla had shown interest in starting a battery manufacturing plant in India in addition to EV cars and was on the lookout for the location of the EV car manufacturing plant in India by the end of 2023.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana were also campaigning for the same.
Sources suggest that Tesla may sign the MOU for the manufacturing plant during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Jan 2024.
The officials for the industries and mines department of Gujarat have begun inspecting the lands to allocate for the plant.
Sanand also has a Tata Motors manufacturing plant, which produces hatchback cars for the Indian car manufacturer. Chip-giant Micron Technology was also allotted land in Sanand for semiconductor projects.
