A major jewellery theft case has come to light in Ahmedabad’s Nikol area, where a salesgirl working at a jewellery showroom allegedly stole gold ornaments worth around ₹1.11 crore. The accused woman and her lover, who were reportedly absconding for several days, have now been arrested by the Crime Branch.

The incident took place at Abhushan Gold and Silver, a jewellery showroom located in Gravity Shopping Mall near Anmol Circle in Nikol. According to showroom owner Darshanbhai Jain, the theft was discovered during a regular stock audit conducted by the management. During verification, more than 1.2 kg of gold jewellery was found missing from the showroom stock.

According to police, the stolen jewellery included gold chains, rings, bangles, mangalsutras, pendants, watches and other costly ornaments. The total value of the missing jewellery is said to be more than ₹1.11 crore.

Suspicion fell on salesgirl Harshida Shetty after she suddenly stopped coming to work and went missing. When police checked the showroom’s CCTV footage, they found visuals of Harshida secretly removing jewellery from the cupboard and hiding it inside her clothes before leaving the showroom with her bag.

During the investigation, police and the Crime Branch tracked Harshida using CCTV footage and technical surveillance. Officials said her lover was also involved in the theft plan. According to police, the couple had travelled to places like Delhi and Rishikesh after the theft.

At present, both accused are being questioned by police. Officials are also checking their bank transactions and mobile call records to find out whether any other person was involved in selling or hiding the stolen jewellery.
