Deceased Ravindra Luhar (L) and Smit Gohil (R)

Untangling the Sabarmati  Riverfront murder case that was connected to Ravindra Luhar’s murder in Viramgam, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch revealed it to be a suicide by Smit Gohil.

The details of the cases were revealed after the police interrogated Yash Rathod, and it was established that Yash and Smit had murdered Ravindra, and Smit later committed suicide as he was afraid of getting caught by the police.

Murderer commits suicide

Throwing light on the incident, Ahmedabad crime branch deputy commissioner of police Chaitanya Mandlik said, “Yash, a mutual friend of Smit and Ravindra Luhar, had borrowed ₹2 lakh from him. As Ravindra was constantly asking for the money he lent, Yash and Smit decided to get rid of him.”

Smit and Yash orchestrated a plan 15 days ago, where Smit purchased a country-made gun (tamancha) from Bhind, Madhya Pradesh. On Oct 28, they both rented a car from a car rental company near Jodhpur Char Rasta in Ahmedabad.

After removing the number plate of the rented car and installing black film on the window glass, on Oct 29, Luhar was promised a payment of ₹2 lakh and was taken in a car, giving the excuse that they needed to collect money from Hansalpur.

Luhar was shot in the head near the canal; and was stabbed multiple times. To destroy the evidence, the body was doused with petrol brought earlier and set ablaze.

Later, Gohil pretended to help Luhar’s family find him and left his home, also keeping an eye on police investigation. However, Gohil was seen in the CCTV footage at one place, which startled him.

On Oct 30, Gohil went to the western part of the riverfront and killed himself with the same gun he used for his friend’s murder.

Forensic experts found traces of sulphur on Gohil’s hand, and the position of the bullet indicated that the whole incident was not a murder but a suicide.
