Sabarmati residents allege AAP worker of demolishing public toilet to build house

Residents of the Mahakali Ni Chali area in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati have alleged that a leader from the Aam Aadmi Party demolished a municipal toilet and built a house on the site.

After similar allegations by the son of a former BJP councillor, residents have submitted an application to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

Mahakali Ni Chali residents alleged that out of the 12 toilet blocks built by the municipal corporation, four blocks were demolished, and without the AMC’s approval, the AAP vice-president Babu Danabhai Parmar constructed a house in their place.

A written complaint has been lodged with the estate department. Former BJP councillor Chanchalben Parmar’s son Hasmukh Parmar lives in the locality. During his mother’s term as councillor in 2021, this toilet block was renovated.

In response to the dispute, the deputy estate officer said that the land belongs to the Railways. Years ago, when there were huts in the area, the municipality might have constructed the toilet for public convenience.

Notably, in a similar recent incident of ‘politicians eyeing public toilets’, a public toilet of the AMC was demolished with a JCB machine as it was obstructing a BJP worker’s shop in Shastrinagar, near Sardar Patel Nagar.
