Sabar Dairy short of 1.6 million litres in milk collection as farmers’ protest enters 5th day

For the fifth consecutive day, as many as 3,75,000 dairy farmers of Sabarkantha and Aravalli districts staged a protest against Sabar Dairy’s unfair milk price adjustments.
Sabar Dairy recorded milk collection of only 1 million litres, a significant drop of 1.6 million litres compared to its routine intake, creating multiple challenges for the dairy on Thursday. The sharp drop in daily milk collection has increased the risks faced by Sabar Dairy.
Angry dairy farmers, as a mark of protest, poured milk from 17 milk tankers onto the roads over the past three days. The viral video of farmers stopping a tanker near Shinawad and pouring milk on the road highlighted the ongoing agitation, with similar actions reported in Aravalli district as well.
Expressing their frustration openly, farmers have now decided to distribute milk for free in urban areas, neighbourhoods, and schools so it reaches those in need while they continue their protest until justice is served.
The movement has also led to a significant reduction in tanker movements to the dairy’s chilling centres.
