Kshatriya community leaders call for Rupala to withdraw from Rajkot candidature

The BJP has fielded a surprise contender in one of the key constituencies in Rajkot, Parshottam Rupala, for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Ahead of the elections, Rupala has landed himself in a dire situation regarding one of his statements.

Days after union minister Rupala remarked on the erstwhile rulers of Gujarat, he is facing backlash from the Kshatriya community across the state.

A complaint has been registered with the Election Commission against Rupala, prompting  an inquiry by the  concerned district election officer to assess the controversial nature of this complaint.  

Rajput community  have demanded the withdrawal of Rupala’s candidature from Rajkot’s seat. Meetings of Kshatriya community leaders are scheduled across the state, including Jamnagar, Ahmedabad, and Rajkot.

As per reports, Rajput leaders are expected to meet state BJP president CR Patil today.

What is the dispute?

As the Lok Sabha elections draw closer, Rupala got  embroiled in a controversy. In a video surfaced online, Rupala was seen allegedly criticising the Rajputs at an event.

Rupala later also apologised to the Kshatriya community.

Regarding the viral video, Rupala said, “I gave a statement in the programme of Valmiki Samaj, the leaders of Kshatriya Samaj have expressed their anger about this. But my intention was not to make our royals look low, but if my videos hurt anyone’s feelings, I apologise from the bottom of my heart. Please finish this topic right here.”
