₹2 crore worth of hybrid ganja seized at Ahmedabad airport, two Bangkok passengers arrested

Acting on specific intelligence inputs from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Customs officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad seized 2.25 kilograms of hybrid ganja worth ₹2.25 crore from two passengers who had arrived from Bangkok.
The operation was carried out following a tip-off received by the DRI regarding the possible smuggling of narcotic substances through international passengers. Based on the input, Customs authorities intercepted the two individuals upon their arrival from Bangkok and subjected them to a detailed inspection.
During the search of their baggage, officials recovered a total of 2.25 kg of what has been identified as hybrid ganja, a potent, genetically modified variant of cannabis known for its high tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content. The contraband was allegedly concealed in a manner intended to evade detection.
Officials said the seized substance has been sent for forensic examination to confirm its composition and purity. Preliminary findings, however, indicate that it is a high-grade form of cannabis increasingly being trafficked through international routes.
Following the recovery, both passengers were taken into custody and subsequently arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are now probing the source of the contraband, its intended destination, and whether the accused are part of a larger drug trafficking network.
“Further investigation is underway to ascertain the supply chain and identify other individuals involved in the smuggling racket,” an official
