RPF personnel save passenger from falling between train and platform at Ahmedabad station

In a swift and courageous act, personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) saved the life of a 42-year-old passenger who slipped into the gap between a moving train and the platform at Ahmedabad Railway Station early on Monday.
The incident occurred around 4 am on Platform No. 1, when Train No. 09009 was departing from the station. According to officials, the passenger attempted to board the general coach of the moving train but lost his footing and fell into the narrow gap between the platform and the train.
Head Constable Kishori Lal Balai, who was on duty at the platform, immediately rushed to assist and attempted to pull the man to safety. However, as the train began to pick up speed, the passenger slipped beyond his reach.
At this point, members of the RPF’s Crime Prevention and Detection Squad (CPDS), Assistant Sub-Inspector Raman Kumar and Constable Chhotu Lal, who were present at the platform in plain clothes, reacted swiftly. Risking their own safety, they ran towards the moving train and managed to pull the passenger out from the gap just in time, preventing what could have been a fatal accident.
The rescued passenger was identified as Mahendra Mehta, 42, a resident of Surat. He told officials that he was travelling with his family from Surat to Gandhidham on a general ticket and had briefly alighted at Ahmedabad station to purchase tea and snacks. While attempting to reboard the train, he slipped.
Officials said the passenger did not sustain any injuries in the incident. CCTV footage of the rescue operation has been secured and will be reviewed as part of standard procedure.
