Road closure announced ahead of T20 world cup matches in Ahmedabad, know dates and routes

T20 World Cup matches are set to be played in the coming days at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In this regard, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G S Malik has issued an official notification.
According to the notification, movement of all types of vehicles will be restricted on certain roads around the stadium on match days. In particular, the main road from Janpath T-junction to Motera T-junction will be completely closed to ensure smooth traffic management during the matches.
Vehicle users have been advised to use alternative routes such as Tapovan Circle-ONGC-Visat and Sharan Status-Bhat Koteshwar Road. The police have appealed to commuters to follow traffic rules and plan their travel in advance to avoid inconvenience.
Match days and timings
These rules will be applicable during the major matches to be played in Ahmedabad in the coming days:
Match dates: February 9, 11, 14, 18, 22, and 26 (and March 8, 2026, if the final is held in Ahmedabad).
Traffic restriction timing: From 3 pm until midnight after the match ends.
Which roads will be closed?
Janpath T-junction to Motera Stadium main gate: Closed for all types of vehicles.
Krupa Residency T-junction to Motera Gaam T-junction: Also closed for general traffic.
Details of alternative routes
From Tapovan Circle side: ONGC Crossroads-Visat T-junction-Janpath T-junction-Power House Crossroads-Prabodh Rawal Circle.
From Koteshwar/Bhat side: Krupa Residency T-junction-Sharan Status Crossroads-Bhat Koteshwar Road-Apollo Circle.
Who is exempted?
Vehicles with match-related permissions, emergency services, and local residents living around the stadium area will be exempted from these restrictions, as clarified in the notification. Adequate police deployment will be arranged to ensure smooth traffic management during the matches.
Metro train and special arrangements
To make it easier for cricket fans to reach the stadium and return home, GMRC has announced special arrangements:
Extended timings: On match days, metro services will operate until 12.50 am.
Special paper ticket: A special paper ticket at a flat rate of ₹50 can be purchased in advance to avoid long queues.
Routes: Additional metro services will run from Motera to APMC and from Vastral to Thaltej.
Ahmedabad Traffic Police have appealed to citizens to use public transport such as metro or BRTS instead of personal vehicles to avoid traffic congestion. Legal action will be taken against those violating traffic rules.
