Ahmedabad is witnessing a worrying surge in fatal road accidents, with reckless and high-speed driving continuing to claim innocent lives. In two separate incidents reported from Naranpura–Sardar Patel Bavla Road and Memnagar’s Valinath Chowk–a young man and a woman lost their lives, leaving families shattered.

In the first incident, a 20-year-old youth riding an Activa was killed after being hit by a speeding gas-kit truck near Ladli Showroom on Sardar Patel Bavla Road in Naranpura. The victim, a resident of Thaltej, was returning home after visiting the Camp Hanuman Temple along with his cousin.

As per the complaint lodged at Traffic B Division Police Station by the victim’s father, a gas-kit truck came at high speed around 10 pm and rammed into the Activa, throwing both riders onto the road. The youth suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.

In another tragic incident, a woman lost her life at Valinath Chowk in Memnagar. The victim and her husband, residents of Chandlodia, were returning home on an Activa after visiting a relative. As they passed by the BRTS bus stand, a speeding Amdavad Municipal Corporation dumper truck coming from the AEC Bridge side hit their two-wheeler.

Both husband and wife fell onto the road, and the dumper truck’s tyre ran over the woman’s head, killing her instantly. The truck driver also fled the scene.

In both cases, the Traffic police have registered offences against the drivers and initiated further investigation. The incidents have once again raised serious concerns over unchecked speeding and reckless driving on Ahmedabad’s roads.
