Residents protest at Naroda MLA’s office over sewage overflow issue

Despite the inclusion of areas such as Naroda, Sardarnagar, and Kubernagar in the Amdavad Municipal Corporation about 39 years ago, the residents have been deprived of proper drainage systems.

For the past six months, residents of Sardarnagar have been suffering due to overflowing sewage and dirty water. On Monday morning, large groups of residents from areas like Bidi Kamdar Nagar, Valmiki Awas, Ansuya Nagar, and Ambedkar Nagar in Sardarnagar ward gathered at the MLA’s office. They held a protest, demanding in strong words that the overflowing sewage and dirty water be stopped.

Residents had repeatedly submitted complaints to four councillors and municipal officials, but no action was taken. However, faced with mounting public anger, the corporation was finally compelled to deploy machinery on the spot and begin the work.

Earlier, people in Asarwa had also surrounded local MLA Darshanaben Vaghela in protest after their basic civic problems remained unaddressed.

According to local sources, the matter had earlier been raised with the ward’s four councillors as well as the MLA, but none of them paid heed to the residents’ grievances. Left with no option, the people surrounded their legislator to draw attention to their plight.
