Remission of former Congress MLA’s murderer challenged in Gujarat HC
A petition was filed in the Gujarat High Court by Haresh Sorathiya, grandson of slain Congress MLA Popatlal Sorathiya, challenging the remission of Anniruddhsinh Jadeja.
Jadeja was later released on remission after spending 18 years in jail as his son wrote to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) T S Bisht to release Jadeja in 2018.
Hearing the recently filed writ petition, the high court has now asked the ADGP of the prison and Jadeja to be present in court and scheduled the next hearing for October 28.
In 1988, on Independence Day, Popatlal Sorathiya, the Congress MLA of Gondal, was killed by Anniruddhsinh Jadeja during a flag hoisting program.
For that, in 1997, Jadeja was booked under Terrorists and Disruptive Activities (TADA) act and was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court.
