Reid & Taylor store manager booked for alleged ₹1.54 lakh embezzlement in Ahmedabad

A store manager employed at a Reid & Taylor showroom on Ahmedabad’s C G Road has been booked for allegedly misappropriating ₹1.54 lakh from the company’s sales proceeds and failing to deposit the amount despite repeated assurances.
According to Navrangpura police, the accused, identified as Ketankumar Chavda of Anand district, was working as store manager at the Reid & Taylor ready-made garments showroom at Shopper Plaza-2 in Navrangpura.
Jitendrabhai Kalal, assistant manager at the showroom, alleged that Chavda had diverted company funds collected from sales between February and April 2026 for personal use.
Chavda joined the showroom on March 4, 2025, after being appointed through an offer and joining letter. His responsibilities included handling customer billing, depositing cash collections into the company’s bank account and maintaining store accounts.
The complainant stated that on March 31, 2026, the company’s accounting manager based at the Mumbai head office noticed during a ledger review that cash amounting to ₹1.82 lakh collected at the Ahmedabad showroom had not been deposited in the bank.
When contacted by the accounts department, Chavda allegedly claimed that the bank server was down and that the amount would be deposited once banking services resumed. However, according to the complaint, he continued to delay the payment with excuses over the following days.
By April 6, 2026, the total undeposited cash from showroom sales had risen to ₹1.99 lakh. Acting on instructions from the company, staff members checked the cash drawer at the showroom and reportedly found only ₹45,000 remaining.
When questioned about the missing ₹1.54 lakh Chavda allegedly admitted to having used the money for personal purposes and assured the company that he would return the amount within a few days. He also reportedly submitted a written apology.
Police said that despite repeated reminders from the company management and a visit by the area manager from Mumbai, the accused neither returned the money nor resumed work at the showroom.
The complainant further alleged that even after being called to Navrangpura Police Station and promising to repay the amount in instalments between the 15th and 20th of every month, Chavda failed to honour the commitment.
Based on the complaint, Navrangpura police have registered a case of criminal breach of trust and launched further investigation.
