Eight people, including two minors in conflict with law, have been arrested in connection with the murder of 28-year-old Ajay alias Ranchhod Salvi in Ahmedabad’s Ranip area, police said. Investigators suspect the killing was linked to a long-standing rivalry, with 12 to 13 people allegedly involved in the attack.
Four other accused, including alleged key conspirators, remain absconding.
Attack Near Subhash Bridge Circle
According to police, Ajay Salvi was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons near Subhash Bridge Circle following a dispute with members of a rival group.
The attackers allegedly fled towards Kalol after the murder. Ranip police examined CCTV footage along the route and used technical surveillance to trace the suspects to a warehouse in Chhatral GIDC.
Multiple police teams were deployed following the killing. Based on the leads gathered during the investigation, officers raided the warehouse and arrested eight accused.
Old Dispute Behind Murder
Police said the preliminary investigation points to a long-standing dispute between Salvi and the accused.
Salvi had allegedly been involved in two earlier altercations with members of the rival group, which police believe contributed to continued hostility.
Investigators have also linked the rivalry to the murder of Shankar Salvi on February 17, 2025. Six people from Vadaj were arrested in that case, which was allegedly connected to a dispute involving a woman.
Police suspect that Vishal Chauhan and Ankit Parmar had helped the accused in that case, further deepening tensions between the two groups.
Police Suspect Attack Was Planned
According to the preliminary findings, Vishal Chauhan allegedly played a key role in planning the latest attack.
Police suspect that Chauhan and Ankit Parmar lured Ajay into a tempo on the pretext of a quarrel and took him to a location where the other accused were allegedly waiting.
Vishal allegedly identified Ajay to the attackers, following which he was assaulted.
Police are yet to arrest Vishal Chauhan, Ankit Parmar, Parth alias Powder and Lalo. Sagar alias Mafia has also been named during the investigation.
Investigators are examining the precise role of each accused and whether additional people were involved.
Warehouse Role Under Investigation
Police are also investigating the ownership and use of the warehouse in Chhatral GIDC where the eight accused were apprehended.
Officials said the previous disputes and the 2025 murder case would also be examined to establish whether there were further links between the incidents.
“The accused were traced through CCTV footage and technical inputs. We are examining the role of all those involved, and teams have been deployed to apprehend the absconding accused,” said D V Rana, ACP, L Division.
The investigation is continuing, with police teams conducting searches for the remaining accused.
