Ramol police seize ₹50 lakh in unaccounted cash from duo ahead of Diwali

In a significant pre-Diwali crackdown, the Ramol police on Sunday intercepted a large sum of unaccounted cash on the CTM Express Highway. A sum of ₹50 lakh was seized from two individuals, identified as Deepak Kashyap and Ravi Rajput. They have been taken into custody for questioning.
Both men hail from Noida and, according to preliminary investigations, had been tasked with collecting the cash from Mumbai and delivering it to a recipient in Jaipur. They were reportedly being paid between ₹20,000 and ₹30,000 for the delivery.
The cash was discovered during a routine vehicle check on the CTM Express Highway. When questioned, the individuals failed to provide any valid explanation for the possession of such a large sum.
Police officials confirmed that the men’s phones, car, and cash have been seized, and the Income Tax authorities have been informed of the matter. During the detention, one of the phones repeatedly received calls from a Delhi-based number. Upon answering, the individual appeared to be alerted and subsequently switched off the device.
Preliminary reports suggest that the cash was being transported without proper documentation, prompting authorities to launch a detailed investigation into its source and intended use. While no direct links to criminal activities have yet been confirmed, police are probing whether the seized money could be connected to illicit transactions or illegal operations.
A senior police official said, “We have secured the individuals and the cash. A thorough inquiry is underway to ascertain the origin of the funds and to ensure that no unlawful activity is involved.”
The operation comes amid heightened vigilance by law enforcement agencies ahead of the festive season, a period often marked by the circulation of unaccounted cash.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
