Rajkot woman dies by suicide after husband shares video of his second marriage on Instagram

A married woman from Ranavav, who had returned to her parental home after a dispute, allegedly died by suicide after seeing a video of her husband’s second marriage posted on Instagram. Her mother has filed a complaint against the husband, accusing him of driving her daughter to end her life.

According to a police complaint filed at the Ranavav police station by Kherunben, a resident of Kasbati Jamatkhana area in Ranavav, her daughter Memuda was married to Sameer Siraj Juneja, a resident of Bhavnagar Road in Rajkot. The couple reportedly lived together peacefully for about a year, after which Sameer developed an addiction to alcohol.

He allegedly began abusing Memuda both physically and mentally over household matters and would often beat her. Unable to bear the abuse, six months ago, Memuda returned to her maternal home and later filed a case seeking alimony.

On the night of May 17, Kherunben was in Rajkot when she received a call from Memuda, who was in tears. She told her mother, “Mom, Sameer has married another woman. I just saw the video on Instagram. He has ruined my life. I don’t want to divorce him, but now that he has married again, I have no reason to live. I am going to die.”

Despite her mother trying to console, Memuda consumed poison shortly after the call. She was rushed to a private hospital in Porbandar and later shifted to G G Hospital in Jamnagar, where she died after five days of treatment.

Following the incident, Kherunben filed a police complaint accusing her son-in-law of abetting her daughter’s suicide. Police have registered a case and begun further investigation.
