Rajkot woman alleges husband pressured her into ‘couple swapping’

A Rajkot woman has alleged that her husband pressured her to participate in couple swapping just months after their marriage, and when she refused, their relationship deteriorated, ultimately leading to the breakdown of the marriage.
The woman, who married a Surat-based man in July 2022, claimed that her husband first raised the demand in October that year. According to her, he allegedly told her that participating in couple swapping would bring both financial benefits and enjoyment. She said she repeatedly refused and was subsequently subjected to emotional pressure.
The woman further alleged that the issue became a major source of conflict between the couple, eventually pushing the marriage to the brink of collapse. In 2023, she filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws, claiming she had also informed police about the alleged couple-swapping pressure at the time. She claimed that she had raised the issue of couple swapping before the police at that time, but her allegations were not taken seriously.
Cases involving her husband are currently pending in both Surat and Rajkot, she said.
The woman added that she decided to speak publicly after local community leaders recently raised concerns about alleged couple-swapping activities in Surat.
She clarified that she was never directly involved in any such activity but alleged that her husband had shown her a Facebook account through which he wanted her to participate.
Her allegations come amid an ongoing debate over alleged couple-swapping activities in Surat, a practice that has largely remained a taboo subject in India.
