Highway accidents in Gujarat have been on the rise, as a total of seven people died in two separate accidents within 48 hours.

Rajkot-Ahmedabad Highway (National Highway 8A) saw a terrible accident this morning in which three people died on the spot.

The accident took place near Maliyasan, approximately 9 km away from Rajkot on Kuvadva Road, when two cars and a truck rammed into each other. A passenger and the driver of one of the cars died on the spot, and the car was completely crushed.

The impact was so severe that both cars overturned, and the bodies had to be recovered by breaking through the roof of the car, leading to a huge traffic jam.

Patan’s car crash

In a separate incident, four people, including a couple and their two children, were killed in a road accident after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a wild boar in Patan on Dec 13.

The officials said that the accident occurred near Fangli village in Santalpur taluka, and all the victims were residents of Fangli.

The police said that the victims included two minor children, a son and a daughter, aged between 12 and 15 years old.

The family was en route to attend a wedding ceremony in Kutch when the driver lost control of the vehicle upon striking a wild boar crossing the highway.

The car veered off the road and into a water-filled pit on the roadside, resulting in the incident.

The bodies of the deceased were subsequently recovered and transported to a community health centre in Santalpur for post-mortem examinations.
