Rajasthan trader alleges ₹50,000 theft during rickshaw ride in Ahmedabad

A 25-year-old trader from Rajasthan has lodged a police complaint alleging that ₹50,000 in cash was stolen from him by unidentified persons during a shared autorickshaw ride in Ahmedabad earlier this month.
According to Madhavpura police, Ashwini Harishbhai Khatri, a resident of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, had travelled to Ahmedabad on May 4 to purchase mobile accessories for his business.
Khatri stated that he arrived in Ahmedabad by a private travels bus on the morning of May 5 and checked into a hotel near Namaste Circle. He later proceeded towards Geeta Mandir Mobile Market to purchase mobile accessories, carrying ₹50,000 in cash with him.
At around 11.30 am, he boarded a shared autorickshaw from near H B Kapadia School towards Geeta Mandir. According to the complaint, two unidentified persons were seated in the front along with the driver, while two others were seated in the rear passenger seat. During the journey, one of the men sitting in front allegedly moved and sat beside him.
Khatri alleged that when the rickshaw reached the area outside Dariyapur Darwaza Circle, he was asked to get down. After alighting from the vehicle, he noticed that the pocket of his track pants had been torn and the cash he had been carrying was missing.
The complainant has alleged that one or more of the unidentified co-passengers stole the money during the journey without his knowledge.
Despite the alleged theft, Khatri borrowed money from relatives, purchased the mobile accessories and arranged for their transport to Rajasthan before returning to Ahmedabad to file the police complaint.
Police have registered a case against five unidentified persons, including the autorickshaw driver, and initiated further investigation into the alleged theft.
