Rain likely in South Gujarat, dry weather to persist elsewhere, monsoon may reach Gujarat around June 20

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that heat conditions are likely to persist in Gujarat until June 13, with no significant drop in temperatures expected during the period.

According to the latest forecast, rainy weather is likely to continue in parts of South Gujarat, particularly in Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad districts, throughout the week. However, central and north Gujarat are expected to witness largely dry weather over the next four to five days.

The IMD has also withdrawn its earlier forecast of strong winds of 40-50 kmph due to changing weather conditions.

The department has forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places in several districts between June 8 and June 13.

On June 8, rain is likely in Navsari, Tapi, Valsad, Dang, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

A similar forecast has been issued for June 9 and June 10 for Navsari, Tapi, Valsad, Dang, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

On June 11, isolated rainfall is likely in Surat, Narmada, Chhota Udepur, Navsari, Tapi, Valsad, Dang, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, as well as Gir Somnath, Amreli and Bhavnagar.

On June 12, rain is likely in Bharuch, Vadodara, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Surat, Narmada, Chhota Udepur, Navsari, Tapi, Valsad, Dang, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, along with Gir Somnath, Amreli, and Bhavnagar.

On June 13, rainfall is forecast in the same districts, with Junagadh and Porbandar also likely to receive showers.

Meanwhile, the IMD said the southwest monsoon has advanced further over the country. After making its onset over Kerala on June 4, the monsoon has spread to Maharashtra and parts of six other states within 48 hours.

At present, monsoon conditions have covered Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, and Mizoram, while its effects are also being witnessed in Goa and adjoining regions.

The department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and northeastern states during the next week, with some places likely to receive between 7 cm and 20 cm of rain.

According to the IMD's projections, the monsoon is expected to reach Goa and Telangana by June 7-8, Gujarat around June 20, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar between June 15 and 20, central Uttar Pradesh between June 20 and 25, Rajasthan between June 25 and 30, and Delhi-NCR around June 30.

The IMD said conditions remain favourable for further advancement of the monsoon into remaining parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and northeastern India over the next two to five days.
