Rain check Gujarat: State receives season’s 80% rainfall
94 talukas in Gujarat witnessed half an inch of rainfall on Aug 20

Several regions in Gujarat experienced light rainfall and drizzles on the morning of Aug 20 due to a low pressure created near the Bay of Bengal. With 27.88 inches of rainfall, Gujarat witnessed this monsoon's 80.79% of rainfall till date.
94 talukas in Gujarat witnessed half an inch of rainfall on Aug 20. The Met Department has issued guidelines for Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli that will receive light-moderate rainfall today, and regions of Saurashtra and Kutch will experience 30-40 kmph wind speeds.
After this light round of rains, the possibility of rainfall in the state is negligible.
Rainfall recap for the state
After rounds of heavy rainfall and floods in the months of June and July, August received relatively dry and light rains.
June received 9.56 inches of rainfall, 17.66 inches in July, and merely 0.66 inches in August (17 days).
Only 2.5% of the season’s total rainfall has been received in Aug so far.
Last year, in August, with 32.64 inches of rainfall, Gujarat received 98% of the rainfall. This year, therefore, the conditions are way better than last year.

So far, 46 talukas have received 40 inches of rainfall; 110 talukas 20-40 inches; 90 talukas 10-20 inches; and five talukas have received 5-10 inches of rainfall.

Valsad received the highest rainfall with more than 78.46 inches.
Rain has filled the water bodies in the state considerably
In the wake of heavy seasonal rains in Gujarat, water bodies of the state have seen considerable water levels.
Out of 206 water bodies of the state, 74.75% have reached their maximum capacity. 94 water bodies were on high alert due to more than 90% of water capacity levels and 58 of them overflowed.

Sardar Sarovar dam, dubbed as the state’s lifeline, has reached water levels of 73.49% as of Aug 1. Moreover, in August, the dam witnessed more than 4% water level. On the other hand, 37 water bodies of the state still have less than 50% of water level.
