Air pollution levels in Ahmedabad have climbed to alarming territory, with Raikhad registering an AQI of 283 as the most polluted location in the city on Sunday evening. Rakhial followed with an AQI of 259.
The citywide average AQI stood at 211, placing Ahmedabad firmly in the ‘poor’ category. Across Gujarat, Ankleshwar remained the most polluted with an AQI of 236, while Surat recorded 191 and Gandhinagar 113.
AQI between 201–300 is considered ‘poor’, 301–400 ‘very poor’, and 401–500 ‘severe’. Long exposure to air in the 201–300 band can cause respiratory discomfort, especially for sensitive groups.
Officials warn that as winter intensifies, air pollution levels may worsen further.
