A government school in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, has come under scrutiny for a performance during the Independence Day function.
The students portraying terrorists wore burqas , sparking outrage and allegations of hurting religious sentiments.
The school, run by the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, staged a skit replicating the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. In a video circulating on social media, students can be seen enacting the scene, where those playing terrorists wore burqas and carried toy guns – an act critics said projected terrorists as belonging to the Muslim community.
Explaining the incident, the school principal reportedly said that students had only been instructed to wear any black attire to represent terrorists. According to him, some students chose to wear burqas on their own. However, the video has raised questions about the lack of oversight and the potential spread of misinformation through such enactments.
Following the controversy, the Primary Education Committee has launched an investigation into the matter and sought a clarification from the school. Officials stated that an inquiry would be conducted to determine responsibility.
