Ahmedabad Traffic Police on Friday removed a series of banners that had been put up across parts of the city under the guise of traffic awareness, after it was found that the messages were inappropriate and not related to road safety.

According to officials, the banners were originally permitted by the department as part of a traffic awareness campaign. However, after public criticism and internal review, it came to light that the content of the banners strayed from the intended theme and was being misused by a private group.

Joint Commissioner of Traffic N N Chaudhary stated that the banners were installed by a vigilance group, but were later taken down after being deemed unsuitable.

The Traffic JCP also confirmed that although permission was granted for traffic-related awareness, the banners were promptly removed from all locations once their off-topic nature was discovered.

Authorities have clarified that no further misuse of such permissions will be tolerated and have urged organisers to ensure that public messaging strictly aligns with the purpose for which permission is granted.
