In a shocking incident in Ahmedabad’s Memnagar area, a man allegedly attacked his in-laws with a knife and struck his father-in-law on the head with a cooker, following a property dispute. Police said the accused had been pressuring the family to include his name in their will.

According to the complaint lodged at Ghatlodia police station by Shweta Narayani, she lives with her husband and parents-in-law in Memnagar. Her sister-in-law Sweety, who has been suffering from a neurological illness, was married to the accused, Haresh Ratnani, about one-and-a-half years ago.

Shweta told police that on Rakshabandhan, Ratnani had left his wife at her parental home, demanding that he be given a share in the family’s property and that a will be executed in his name. “Until the will is made, your daughter will stay with you,” he allegedly told them.

On August 25, when Sweety decided to return to her matrimonial home, Shweta’s mother-in-law called Ratnani to inform him. Later around 3 pm, Ratnani allegedly arrived at the Narayanis’ residence, pulled out a knife from its cover and began shouting.

When Shweta tried to block him by bolting the room door, Ratnani allegedly forced it open and attacked her with the knife. He then barged into her in-laws’ room, pushed her mother-in-law to the ground, and struck her father-in-law on the head with a cooker.

Before leaving, Ratnani allegedly smashed his mother-in-law’s mobile phone and his niece’s remote-controlled toy car, causing damage worth nearly ₹8,000. The complainant also alleged that he had also threatened the family that if they sent his wife back without executing the will, he would kill them.

Based on Shweta’s complaint, Ghatlodia police have registered an FIR against Haresh Ratnani and begun an investigation.
