A Vadodara man allegedly took ₹1.15 crore from a Shahpur-based construction businessman by promising high returns on property investments, police said.
The accused, identified as Divyangkumar Pravinbhai Shukla, allegedly collected the money in installments through cash, cheques and RTGS between January and December 2025.
Investment Promise Turns Into Dispute
According to the complaint, Ravi Datania, who lives in Shahpur and works in construction, was introduced to the accused through his younger brother Kiplbhai, who works with Air India.
Kiplbhai met Vadodara resident Ankurkumar Joshi at the airport in 2024. In January 2025, Joshi allegedly told Ravi and his brother that his cousin Divyang Shukla was involved in the property buying and selling business and needed funds to expand it.
Shukla allegedly assured Ravi and his family that investing in the business would generate good profits.
Based on the assurances, Ravi, Kiplbhai, their father Rajubhai and their friend Ankur Joshi allegedly gave Shukla ₹60 lakh in cash and another ₹55.05 lakh through cheques and RTGS, taking the total amount to ₹1.15 crore.
Agreement, Affidavit Failed To Secure Repayment
When the promised returns and principal were not paid, the complainant allegedly began demanding repayment. Shukla allegedly started giving excuses.
In January 2026, following repeated demands, Shukla executed an affidavit before a notary and signed an agreement promising to repay the entire amount within two months.
However, the money was allegedly not returned even after the deadline expired.
Ravi subsequently approached Shahpur Police Station and filed a complaint against Divyangkumar Pravinbhai Shukla, alleging cheating and breach of trust. Police have registered a case and launched a further investigation.
