Projects worth ₹1,646 crore in three cities of Gujarat gets govt’s nod

Vadodara, Surat, and Jamnagar to be developed after funds allotted under Gujarat government scheme

For the development of three major cities in Gujarat- Vadodara, Jamnagar, and Surat, the state government allotted ₹1,646 cr to the respective municipal corporations on Oct 16.

Chief minister Bhupendra Patel has given the approval of allocation of ₹1,646 cr to these municipal corporations of the state  for the development of 414 projects for physical and social infrastructure.

Sanskari Nagari’s revamp

Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) submitted a proposal of ₹184.09 cr for 47 projects of road development under Swarnim Jyanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojna for the years 2023-24. 

202 projects in Surat

Similarly, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) proposed an allocation of ₹1029.55 cr from the same scheme for the development of a total of 202 works including 101 physical infrastructures, 78 social infrastructures, and 21 urban mobility projects.

JMC’s development proposal

The Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) was also allotted a total of ₹348.20 cr for the development of 25 road works and other projects in Jamnagar.

₹70.31 cr was allotted to JMC for 25 road works, and funds were also allotted for 138 works of bridge, traffic management, garden, school building, anganwadi, slum area development, and lake beautification. The CM has also given in-principle approval to these proposals of the JMC.

Hues of heritage in Jamnagar

The JMC had also proposed ₹13 crore for the Archaeological Museum of Lakhota Kotha, Bhujiyo Kotho, and Khambhalia Gate heritage projects.

For the restoration and conservation project of the iconic landmark Mandvi Tower, ₹1.25 cr was proposed by the municipal corporation.

The development in these cities will mainly include projects related to roads, water supply, underground sewerage management, as well as school buildings, hospitals, anganwadi, sports complexes, city bus services, railway overbridges and underbridges, ring roads, flyover bridges, heritage tourism, riverfront, beautification, and heritage works.

The state government has allotted ₹2,686 cr, ₹1,008.18 cr, and ₹348.83 cr to Surat, Vadodara, and Jamnagar, respectively, between 2021 and 2023.
