Projects worth ₹1,200 cr greenlit for newly formed corporations, urban authorities in Gujarat

Gujarat government has granted in-principle approval for infrastructure projects worth ₹1,203 crore across the state’s newly formed eight municipal corporations and key urban development authorities. 

The move comes as part of the state’s broader plan to accelerate urban growth and enhance civic amenities under the banner of celebrating the current year as the “Year of Development”.

According to official sources, the newly formed municipal corporations will see significant investments in essential services such as roads, drainage systems, street lighting, and sanitation. In addition, the projects will include the construction of anganwadi centres, school buildings, libraries, and urban health centres to strengthen community infrastructure.

As per reports, the government has also approved projects under urban mobility, city beautification, water supply, and rainwater drainage at an estimated cost of ₹585.83 crore. One of the major highlights of the plan includes the introduction of CNG-run public transport buses to meet the rising demand in urban areas. For this, the government will allocate ₹39 crore annually from 2025 to 2027.

Fund allocations for Urban development bodies

Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) has received ₹72.52 crore for a new sports complex and ₹302.86 crore for sewerage treatment plants and underground drainage networks in four town planning areas.

Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA) has been allotted ₹97.81 crore for road resurfacing, construction of new roads, and installation of energy-efficient LED street lights.

In addition, Surat, Vadodara, and Gandhinagar Municipal Corporations have been granted ₹105.03 crore to improve water supply systems and underground drainage infrastructure.
