An Ahmedabad school principal was allegedly assaulted and abused by a neighbour after he objected to firecrackers being burst inside their residential society on Thursday night. The accused, identified only as Munna (25), has been booked by the Ramol police for assault and verbal abuse following a complaint lodged by the victim.

As per the FIR filed by Vijaykumar Shukla (48), a resident of Matrubhoomi Society in New Maninagar and principal of Tejendra School in Amraiwadi, the incident took place at around 9.30 pm on October 23.

Shukla stated that he, along with his wife Anjuben, daughters Anvika (9) and Kashvika (2 years, 6 months), and son Shashwat (1 year, 6 months), were on their way to meet a friend, Ramsingh Verma, who lives in the same society. “As we passed the common plot, a man named Munna was bursting firecrackers. One of the rockets he set off hit a tree and came flying towards us. It narrowly missed my children,” the complaint reads.

Shukla told the man not to burst firecrackers inside the society as it could harm the members. “I told him to go outside and burst them, but he became aggressive and started shouting that society did not belong to my father. He then began hurling abuses at me and my wife,” his complaint stated.

When Shukla asked him to stop using foul language, Munna allegedly picked up a stick and began assaulting him. “During the scuffle, the gold chain around my neck, weighing about one tola and worth around ₹70,000, fell somewhere,” he added.

Bystanders soon intervened, following which the accused fled. Shukla, who sustained injuries, was taken to LG Hospital, where a medico-legal case was registered.

Based on his complaint, the Ramol police registered a case against the accused for assault and verbal abuse.

Police said the complainant’s statement, along with those of eyewitnesses, including his wife and nearby residents, will be recorded as part of the inquiry. CCTV footage from the society is also being examined to verify the sequence of events.

Officers said initial findings suggest the dispute escalated after the complainant confronted the accused about firecracker safety. “What began as a verbal argument over bursting crackers turned into a physical altercation,” a police official said.
