PM Modi to inaugurate signature bridge in Dwarka
On his visit to Gujarat commencing on Feb 24, PM Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate the Okha-Beyt Dwarka signature bridge on Feb 25.
Built at a cost of ₹978 cr, the Okha–Beyt Dwarka Signature Bridge is a longest cable-stayed bridge connecting the Beyt Dwarka island in the Gulf of Kutch and Okha. The total length of the bridge is 2,320 metres (7,612 ft).
The initiative for the bridge was taken by the Modi government in 2017, addressing the long-standing reliance of pilgrims on water transport to visit the Dwarkadhish Temple.
The bridge will reduce travel time and enhance the safety and comfort of the journey.
Additionally, the bridge is seen as a boon for those seeking a sustainable and affordable alternative to boat cruises, especially beneficial for residents facing commuting challenges, particularly at night.
The bridge stands out as India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, featuring solar panels along its footpath capable of generating one MW of electricity.
Aesthetic enhancements include verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna adorning its sides, blending spiritual reverence with modern infrastructure.
The PM’s visit will also feature an overnight stay at the Dwarka Circuit House.
Local authorities, the Gujarat government, and the Devbhoomi Dwarka district administration have been actively coordinating in preparation for his arrival.
District collector GT Pandya led the discussions on PM Modi’s programmes, including a visit to the Jagat Mandir of Lord Dwarkadhish and the inauguration of additional tourist facilities.
Detailed plans were laid out for the PM’s itinerary, which includes a public address at the NDH High School grounds following his darshan at Dwarkadhish Temple.
Beautification of significant landmarks, public offices, and residential areas in Dwarka and Bet Dwarka are underway.
MLA Pabubha Manek has urged residents to light lamps throughout the area, creating a luminous pathway from Dwarka to surrounding regions.
President Murmu in Gujarat
President Murmu’s visit was a blend of cultural and academic engagements.
The bicentennial celebrations of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati in Tankara took place during her visit.
The President was also the chief guest at the 20th convocation of Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT).
HM Amit Shah’s Gujarat visit
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah curtailed his visit to Gujarat on Feb 13, making an urgent departure for the national capital, New Delhi.
Shah, who had been in his Gandhinagar constituency since Feb 12 for a series of engagements, left Gujarat on the second day of his visit.
He was scheduled to attend various events, including the much-anticipated inauguration of a new air-conditioned community hall in Shela, Ahmedabad, a project undertaken by the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA).
With Shah’s sudden exit, Gujarat’s chief minister Bhupendra Patel attended the planned functions in his stead.
