Pre-monsoon rains brings relief from heat in Gujarat’s Valsad, concern farmers
Heavy pre-monsoon rainfall in Gujarat’s Valsad district late on Saturday night brought sudden relief from intense summer heat, while also causing waterlogging and concern among farmers in several parts of the region.
The rain affected multiple talukas including Vapi, Valsad, Dharampur, and Kaprada. Vapi city experienced a short but intense spell of rain lasting around 15 minutes around midnight.
During this time, water quickly accumulated on main roads, leading to traffic disruption and temporary waterlogging in lowland areas. On Sunday morning, light to moderate rainfall continued in rural parts of Valsad district, keeping the weather cool and cloudy. Kaprada taluka, which is often known for receiving heavy monsoon rainfall, recorded around 7 mm of rain within 2 hours.
The sudden change in weather came after several days of extreme heat in the district. In the last week of May, temperatures in Valsad had reached unusually high levels, making daily life difficult. However, the rain has also created concerns for agriculture. Farmers in the region are worried that pre-monsoon showers may damage mango crops, which are currently in the flowering and early fruit stages. Sudden rain and moisture at this stage can affect both yield and quality of the fruit. Many rural areas reportedly face drinking water shortages during summer, even after heavy monsoon rains due to storage and distribution issues.
Despite these concerns, the rainfall has been widely seen as a welcome break from the severe heatwave conditions. The weather is expected to remain partly cloudy in the coming days, with chances of more pre-monsoon showers in South Gujarat.
