Police team attacked in Sabarmati, youth smashes PCR van windows with wooden stick

An incident of an attack on a police team deployed to maintain law and order has come to light in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati area. Acting on a complaint of public nuisance, a PCR van that reached the spot was allegedly attacked by a man wielding a wooden stick, who vandalised the vehicle.
The accused reportedly not only damaged government property but also abused and argued with on-duty police personnel. Police have registered a case and detained the accused.
According to information, Sabarmati police station constable Ashwinkumar has filed a complaint against the accused, identified as Dilip Rajput. On Saturday around 8 pm, the police control room received a message that a man was creating panic near Dharmeshwar Mahadev Temple in the Sabarmati Railway Colony.
A citizen, Ankitbhai Rawat, had complained that a person armed with a large wooden stick was threatening people. Following the complaint, the Sabarmati PCR-22 team was dispatched to the location.
When the police team reached the spot at around 8.20 pm, the 25-year-old accused, Rajput, was found standing with a wooden stick in his hand. Police asked him to calm down, put the stick aside and cooperate with questioning.
However, on seeing the police, Rajput allegedly became aggressive, started hurling abuses at the staff, and then attacked the government PCR van with the wooden stick.
As a result of the attack, both the front and rear glass panes of the PCR van were shattered. Preliminary estimates suggest damage to government property worth around ₹15,000.
The police team immediately overpowered and detained the accused. A case has been registered for obstructing government duty and damaging public property, and further investigation is underway.
