Police inspector booked for molesting student inside lift at Gandhinagar control room

In a serious allegation that has sent shockwaves through the Ahmedabad’s police establishment, a woman student has lodged a molestation complaint against a Police Inspector (PI) posted at the Gandhinagar Police Control Room. The case has been registered at Vejalpur Police Station.

As per the FIR, PI Barkat Ali Chavda, currently serving at the Gandhinagar Control Room, allegedly molested the student inside a lift during duty hours. Police said the student had gone to the premises for official work when the officer reportedly approached her and subjected her to inappropriate physical contact.

Deeply disturbed by the incident, the student immediately contacted the Abhayam Women’s Helpline seeking assistance. Following the call, counsellors spoke to her and advised her to approach the police. She subsequently submitted a formal complaint at Vejalpur Police Station.

Senior police officials confirmed that a case of molestation has been registered against PI Chavda and further investigation is under way. The officer will be questioned, and CCTV footage from the premises is being examined, officials added.

Vejalpur police have stated that the matter will be probed “with complete impartiality” and that necessary action will be taken based on the evidence gathered.

The incident has once again raised concerns over women’s safety inside government establishments and the conduct of law enforcement personnel.
