Police attacked, threatened for asking to turn loudspeakers off in Asarwa
Almost a month after a municipal officer was attacked while on duty in Ahmedabad’s Asarwa, a cop was attacked by the crowd in the same area, in a dispute regarding loudspeaker permission.
At around 3.30 a.m. in the morning on Nov 27, Shahibag police control room received a complaint from a caller who identified himself as a doctor in Civil Hospital. According to the complaint, people gathered for a garba event in Asarwa’s Hiralal ni Chali were playing loudspeakers in the late hours.
Duty turned deadly
Arvind Shankarsinh Chavda, an on-duty assistant sub-inspector of the Shahibag police station, went to Hiralal ni Chali.
When the police arrived at the chawl, a heated argument between the police and the people gathered in the chawl meant that police had to leave the scene for the time being.
Another police station was informed about the incident, and the police convoy arrived at the scene. The residents of the chawl were once again asked to turn off the loudspeakers.
However, the crowd started shouting and threatened the police instead.
One of the accused attacked a police personnel with a wooden stick on his head and on both hands.
Following the incident, a complaint was filed against 14 residents of Hiralal ni Chali, including Shailesh Thakor, Chirag Bhil, Hiren Bhil, and Shubham Bhil.
