Police ASI killed in accident on SP Ring Road near Vaishnodevi underpass

A police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was killed in a tragic road accident on the SP Ring Road near the Vaishnodevi underpass on Monday, triggering traffic disruption and panic in the area, police said.
The accident occurred near Shaligram Society on the Vaishnodevi–Tragad stretch of the SP Ring Road when a collision took place between a moped (Activa) and a motorcycle. Following the impact, the motorcycle rider fell onto the road and was run over by a dumper passing alongside, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Ajitbhai Nande, an ASI attached to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), where he was serving as an MT supervisor. According to preliminary information, Ajitbhai was returning home to Naroda after completing his duty when the accident took place.
Eyewitnesses said that after the two two-wheelers collided, Ajitbhai lost balance and fell to the side of the road, where he got trapped under the rear tyre of the dumper. He was reportedly dragged for nearly 100 metres, suffering fatal injuries on the spot.
The incident led to a crowd gathering at the accident site, while traffic on the busy SP Ring Road was temporarily affected. L Traffic police personnel rushed to the spot and initiated immediate action to manage traffic and secure the area.
Police officials said that prima facie, no negligence on the part of the dumper driver has emerged so far. However, a detailed inquiry has been initiated and a case has been registered to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
“The deceased was on his way home after duty. The accident appears to have occurred due to a collision between two two-wheelers, following which he came under the dumper. Further investigation is underway,” a traffic police official said.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal procedures are being carried out.
