Due to heavy rains in Junagadh, water inflow has increased on Girnar and Datar mountains, leading to a flood-like situation in the waterbodies. Especially, Damodar Kund has been flooded after 3 inches of rain fell on Girnar mountain in 2 hours.

On Saturday, a large number of devotees arrived at Damodar Kund to offer Pitru Tarpan on the occasion of Amavasya. However, due to the flooding, the administration has banned entry to Damodar Kund, Jatashankar and Willingdon Dam for the safety of pilgrims. This ban will continue until the situation normalises.

Tight police security has been deployed near Damodar Kund to stop pilgrims. The police are not allowing people to enter the Kund, so that no untoward incident takes place. The administration has said that only when the water level goes down and the situation becomes safe, devotees will be allowed to enter for Pitru Tarpan.

It is worth mentioning that due to heavy rains, low-lying areas in Junagadh city and surrounding areas have also been flooded, due to which normal life has been affected. The administration has appealed to people to be careful and stay away from rivers and streams.
