Pilgrim dies of heart attack in Kedarnath, family alleges delay in help

A pilgrim from Vadodara died of a suspected heart attack at Kedarnath Temple on Tuesday, hours after the shrine opened for devotees for the 2026 Char Dham pilgrimage season.
The deceased has been identified as Dilip Mali, who had travelled with a group to seek blessings on the first day. The temple doors were opened early in the morning with Vedic rituals, drawing thousands of devotees, including many from Gujarat.
Following the incident, the victim’s son, a tour operator, shared a video on social media alleging negligence by the local administration. He claimed that despite seeking immediate assistance, help did not arrive on time.
Kedarnath, located at a high altitude, often poses health risks due to low oxygen levels and extreme weather conditions, increasing the chances of cardiac emergencies among pilgrims.
No official statement has been issued by the authorities so far regarding the incident.
