Pickup van ploughs into truck on Bavla–Bagodra Highway, 4 dead, 2 injured

A horrific accident on the Bavla–Bagodra Highway in Gujarat early on Tuesday left four people dead and two others injured, police said.

The accident took place around 4.30 am near Ramnagar, close to a roadside tea stall. A Bolero pickup, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into the rear of a truck ahead of it.

Two victims, a man and a woman, were declared dead at the scene. Four others were rushed by two 108 ambulances to Bavla Hospital for first aid. Two of those later died during treatment, bringing the death toll to four.

The remaining two injured victims were stabilised and transferred to Sola Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, for further care. Hospital sources said one of the transferred patients is in critical condition.

All those aboard the pickup have been identified as employees of Balaji Caterers, Naroda, as the team was reportedly en route to a resort near Bagodra to prepare food for a wedding.

Bavla police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Forensic teams and traffic officers were at the site collecting evidence and inspecting vehicle damage. Authorities are probing speed, driver condition and brake or vehicle failure as potential factors.
