Petrol pump employee booked for stealing ₹80,000 from cash room in Ahmedabad

Shahpur police have registered a theft case against a 21-year-old woman employed as a fuel attendant after ₹80,000 was allegedly stolen from the cash room of a petrol pump in Ahmedabad earlier this month.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident took place around 12.30 am on December 3 at a BPCL Auto Service petrol pump in the Shahpur–Mirzapur area. The accused, identified as Mehrajbanu Ansari, allegedly entered the cash room and decamped with cash kept in the drawer.
The complaint was lodged by Asif Abdul Rashid Mansuri (39), manager of the petrol pump, who has been working at the facility for the past nine years. Mansuri stated that when he checked the accounts the following morning, he found a shortfall in the cash collected during the previous shift.
“Upon reviewing the CCTV footage installed inside the cash room, it was seen that around 12.45 am, Mehrajbanu entered the room and removed ₹58,000 along with another ₹22,000 kept in the drawer, taking away a total of ₹80,000,” the FIR said.
Mansuri added that the accused had not reported for duty thereafter and could not be traced despite efforts to locate her. Initially, the management refrained from approaching the police as the accused was an employee, but a decision was taken to file a complaint after she remained untraceable.
Based on the complaint, Shahpur police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Statements of other petrol pump staff and examination of CCTV footage are under way. Police said further action would be taken after verifying all evidence related to the theft.
