Pet Labrador seized after attack on woman in Shilaj; AMC, police initiate action against owner

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Bopal police have initiated legal action against the owner of a pet dog after a woman was injured in a dog attack at a residential complex in Shilaj earlier this week, officials said on Thursday.
According to the CNCD Department official, the incident occurred on January 20 around 1 pm at Kaveri Sangam Flats near S P Ring Road, Shilaj Char Rasta, in the city’s south-west zone. A white Labrador, kept in Flat No. C/203, allegedly attacked a woman while being taken down the staircase on a leash by the owner’s daughter.
Following the incident, the Dog Complaint Cell of the CNCD Department, comprising a veterinary doctor, sanitary inspector and dog catcher, conducted an on-site inspection on January 22. Officials found that the Labrador had been vaccinated and was duly registered with the AMC on May 26, in the name of Shivam Bharatkumar Suthar.
Despite the dog being registered and vaccinated, the veterinary officer and sanitary inspector, along with police personnel, filed an online complaint at the Bopal Police Station, citing negligence on part of the dog owner in handling the pet in a manner that endangered others. The authorities noted that the manner in which the dog was being taken in common areas led to the attack and injury.
Separately, the injured woman’s husband, Jaswantbhai Patel, also lodged an online complaint at the Bopal Police Station, seeking legal action against the pet owner. Acting on these complaints, the Bopal police registered a case in connection with the incident that occurred on January 20 and initiated further investigation.
To prevent any further harm, the Labrador has been seized from the owner and shifted to the AMC’s municipal dog shelter, officials said. Police said necessary legal proceedings are being pursued against the pet owner in coordination with the municipal authorities.
