Pet dog attacks woman in Bopal, complaint filed with police, AMC

A woman was injured after being attacked by a pet dog at a residential apartment complex in Bopal, prompting her family to approach the police and the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) seeking action against the dog’s owner.
According to a written complaint submitted to the Bopal police, the incident occurred on the afternoon of January 20 at Kaveri Sangam apartments near Shilaj crossroads on Sardar Patel Ring Road. Society member Jashwantkumar Patel alleged that a family residing in another flat keeps a pet dog that is posing a danger to other residents.
Patel stated that his wife, Heenaben Patel, was climbing the stairs to their flat when the dog, which was being taken downstairs by a member of the dog owner’s family, suddenly lunged at her. The attack left Heenaben injured, following which she was rushed for immediate medical treatment.
Patel said that the dog has shown aggressive behaviour on earlier occasions as well, creating fear among residents. As he was away in his native village at the time, he could not visit the police station in person and instead submitted a written application, attaching a medical officer’s report and CCTV footage of the incident.
The couple has demanded strict action against the dog owner and preventive measures to ensure the safety of residents, especially children and elderly persons. The CCTV visuals of the attack have since surfaced on social media, drawing widespread attention and sparking debate over responsible pet ownership in housing societies.
Police officials said they have received the complaint and are examining the CCTV footage and medical documents. Further action will be taken after verifying the facts, while the AMC has also been informed to look into compliance with civic and pet control norms.
