To ensure that the VIPs visiting Ahmedabad experience a ‘seamless drive’, a road was built within 45 days. At a cost of ₹10 cr. And, without a pedestrian crossing!

Apparently the “well-planned” 1.7 km long Iconic Road development project for a stretch connecting the Ahmedabad airport to the Indira Bridge Circle was set to begin construction after Diwali in 2023.

Road for ‘VIPs’

The stretch in question is a VIP road connecting the airport to the state capital, Gandhinagar, constructed at a cost of ₹10 cr.

However, the surrounding trees, temples, and other establishments also paid the price for the construction of this ‘VIP’ road.

To construct this Iconic Road, the estate department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) mowed down over a thousand trees, 86 commercial, 112 residential, and 13 temple establishments by the estate department.

Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat has been appointed to redesign the entire road along with infrastructure planning.

RKC Infrabuilt Pvt Ltd has been allotted to build a multifunctional zone, central verge, footpath, parking, etc. on an annual rate contract.

Now that the road has been built, arrangements for crossings on this stretch will be made for pedestrians at the following spots:

- Talavadi circle

- Hansol police station

- Mangaldeep society

- ISCON Villa Gate-2

- Radhakishan society

- Shiva Park society

- Indira circle

- Airport circle
