Reaching the doorsteps of one of the temples of shaktipeeths, the Kalika Mata Temple in Pavagadh, will soon be easier.
The central government's National Monuments Authority has approved the proposal to extend the ropeway to the ‘Shri Kalika Mataji Temple’ in Pavagadh.
A joint monitoring committee was formed followed by the decision which recently conducted a site inspection and permitted the extension of the ropeway.
Currently, the ropeway services in Pavagadh ‘Udan Khotala’ have been operated by Usha Breco Limited. Pavagadh Hill’s ropeway service is 774 m (2,539 ft) in length with mono-cable gondola detachable type lifts.
The ropeway takes the passengers 297 m (970 ft) above the Pavagadh Hill from Manchi Haveli hilltop to Dudhiya Talav. From there, the passenger has to climb 250 steps (820 ft) to reach the temple.
Pavagadh is a municipally operated region of the forest district of Panchmahhal in Gujarat which is 46 km away from Vadodara. The area is also known as Champaner-Pavagadh Archeological Park, marked as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
