A quack in Gujarat's Patan district who was accused of child trafficking, has admitted to burying the girl child he allegedly trafficked, on the banks of Banas river in Patan’s Sami.

After excavation by the police in presence of a mamlatdar on Sunday, only salt was found at the site, the samples of which were sent for further investigation.

Accused Suresh Thakor and his wife Shilpa Thakor allegedly buried the baby girl a month ago.

It was revealed that the girl child was brought to Patan from Kutch. Two more bogus doctors, Rupsinh Thakor of Thara, Sabarkantha, and Naresh Rabari of Kutch’s Adesar, Kutch, were arrested by police in relation to the case.

The accused couple had sought ₹1.20 lakh from another couple, Nirav Modi and his wife, who were looking for the adoption of a child. Suresh allegedly procured a fake birth certificate from Radhanpur Municipality and handed over a premature baby to Modi.

Modi had demanded his money back from Thakor when he found out that the child had a medical issue. Thakor, however, had taken away the adoption papers and did not return money, leading to a complaint against him by Modi.

The probe on child trafficking by Special Operation Group (SOG) was initiated after a doctor flagged that two different couples (Modis and Thakors) were mentioned as parents of the child on different occasions during her treatment at Nishka Hospital.

As police continue their probe, the parents of the child are yet to be identified.
