A 29-year-old passenger died after falling critically ill aboard an IndiGo flight travelling from Ahmedabad to Ranchi, forcing the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur on Friday.

The passenger, identified as Sudip Kumar Gaunish, was suffering from a serious lung disease and had travelled to Ahmedabad with his sister for treatment. He boarded the IndiGo Airbus A320 flight from Ahmedabad at 11.15 am and was scheduled to reach Ranchi by 1.25 pm.

Midway through the journey, while the aircraft was flying over Jabalpur, Sudip developed severe breathing complications and his condition deteriorated rapidly. His sister and co-passengers alerted the cabin crew, following which the pilot sought emergency clearance from Air Traffic Control at Dumna Airport and landed the flight at 1:01 pm.

Airport authorities arranged an ambulance immediately after landing and shifted Sudip to a private hospital in Jabalpur. The flight later resumed its journey to Ranchi after a delay of nearly 50 minutes.

Despite medical intervention, Sudip died during treatment late at night. Following his death, family members left Jabalpur for Ranchi by road.
