The executive director of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, Parag Desai, 49, has passed away  from a brain haemorrhage. Desai was under treatment at a hospital in Ahmedabad.

According to several reports, Desai was injured while trying to ward off the street dogs outside his residence.

Following that, he was reportedly shifted to Ahmedabad’s Shalby Hospital, and subsequently to Zydus Hospital.

Reports suggest that he suffered a brain haemorrhage during his treatment on Oct 22.

Gujarat Congress chief Shaktisinh Gohil took to social media to express his condolences, saying, “Very sad news coming in. Parag Desai, director and owner (of) Wagh Bakri Tea passed away. He had a brain haemorrhage following a fall. May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to the entire Wagh Bakri family across India.”

Desai was the fourth generation scion of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, founded in 1915 by Narandas Desai with company headquarters in Ahmedabad.

Attacks by stray dogs in India have been on the rise lately, with frequent CCTV footage of street dogs attacking, especially children, surfacing online. In August this year, a school girl in Tamil Nadu was attacked by street dogs and was taken to hospital. Similarly, an 11-year-old was killed by stray dogs in June this year.

Last month, a Ghaziabad teen died of rabies after hiding the dog bite from parents.
