A National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Lucknow has held Pakistan’s ISI agent, arrested from Kutch’s Mundra in 2020, guilty and sentenced to six years in jail.
The NIA nabbed Rajak Kumbhar, working as a supervisor at Mundra dockyard, in August 2020 from the city’s Kumbhar Vas area.
Before that, the NIA also got hold of another ISI operative, Mohammed Rashid from UP’s Varanasi. Rashid’s arrest had led them to Kumbhar.
In his interrogation, Rashid disclosed that he and Kumbhar supplied their agency with photographs and information regarding the movement of Indian forces.
Kumbhar has been found guilty under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for supplying suspicious material to Rashid. He was sentenced to six years in prison.
Notably, after Rashid, Kumbhar became the second accused to have been found guilty.
A case was filed by Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), which found Rashid carrying out suspicious activity and supplying sensitive information to Pakistan’s ISI.
The NIA established that several sensitive photographs were clicked from the phone owned by Rashid. Together, Rashid, Kumbhar, and other active ISI agents colluded to carry out a terrorist attack in the country.
Both operatives were provided a significant amount by their handlers in Pakistan.
