More than 5,000 Home Guard personnel and over 700 Civil Defence personnel will participate in the Sabarmati Cleanliness Drive project on June 5.

Orders have already been issued for all officers and Home Guard personnel from both the East and West zones of Ahmedabad to be present in full strength at 6.15 am on June 5.

Under the guidance of Commandant General Manoj Agarwal of the Gujarat State Home Guard Department and District Commandant K R Patel of Ahmedabad West Home Guards, around 6,000 personnel will join this campaign.

A special plan was organised to collect large quantities of waste from the river and dispose of it properly—on the west side of the Sabarmati, near the NID patch under Sardar Bridge, and on the east side, near the ghats under Atal Bridge.

This mega cleanliness drive to clean the Sabarmati River has been underway for the past two weeks, jointly initiated by Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd and the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The cleaning efforts are being carried out in phases across different parts of the river.

On the west bank, four blocks have been assigned, and on the east bank, five blocks have been designated. These areas are being cleaned with community participation involving different zones, departments, social organisations, NGOs, and volunteers.
