Over 3,000 high fever cases, 117 heatstroke incidents amid heatwave in Gujarat

Gujarat has been witnessing intense heatwave conditions over the past several days, with an average of 75 people reportedly falling ill due to heat-related illnesses every day across the state.
According to available health data, 1,901 people fell ill due to heat-related conditions in April, while another 1,698 cases were reported till May 18 this year. In comparison, 2,047 cases were recorded in April last year and 1,082 in May.
The highest number of cases reported over the past 48 days were linked to high fever, with 3,081 patients affected during the period.
Cases of heatstroke have also witnessed a sharp rise this year. While only 30 cases of heatstroke were reported during the corresponding period last year, the number has increased to 117 cases this year, marking a nearly 300% jump.
Health officials have also recorded a significant rise in vomiting and diarrhoea cases amid the extreme temperatures. Compared to last year, cases linked to dehydration and stomach-related illnesses have reportedly increased by nearly 60% in May.
