Over 200 booked for drunken driving as Ahmedabad sees heavy New Year crowds

Large crowds gathered across Ahmedabad on Wednesday night to bid farewell to 2025 and welcome 2026, with popular stretches such as C G Road and Sindhu Bhavan Road witnessing heavy footfall after 10 pm.

Anticipating celebrations, police deployed special teams to monitor public safety and prevent substance abuse.

Senior IPS officers remained on night rounds till midnight, while over 12,000 police personnel and home guards were deployed for vehicle checks and traffic management.

Special SOG teams were stationed on C G Road and Sindhu Bhavan Road to identify drug consumption, while breath analysers were used extensively across major locations.

During the checks, city and rural police together detained more than 200 people for driving under the influence of alcohol. Rural police also carried out intensive patrolling and checking in areas such as Bopal, Shela, Sanand, Changodar, Hathijan, Bagodara and around Nalsarovar farmhouses.
